Specialized Reading Tutoring
Can your child read the words but struggle to understand what they're reading? The Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing Program is designed to help students develop the cognitive skill of concept imagery—the ability to create and manipulate mental images from language—which supports stronger comprehension, reasoning, and communication across academic subjects.
The program is based on the idea that the ability to form mental images from words is a key foundation for understanding and remembering what we read and hear. Many students who struggle with reading comprehension, including some students with ADHD, hyperlexia, autism spectrum disorder, language disorders, or other learning differences, may have difficulty creating these mental images. Without this skill, they may be able to decode words accurately but have trouble understanding the meaning of a sentence, paragraph, or story.
How the program works
The Visualizing and Verbalizing Program teaches students to:
Create detailed mental images from spoken and written language.
Describe their mental images using specific vocabulary.
Connect details to the overall meaning of a passage.
Improve comprehension, memory, vocabulary, and critical thinking.
Develop stronger oral and written language skills.
Instruction progresses systematically from:
Single words
Sentences
Paragraphs
Longer passages and stories
Students learn to answer comprehension questions by relying on the mental images they have created rather than simply recalling isolated facts.
Who benefits?
The program is often recommended for students who:
Read fluently but struggle to understand what they read.
Have difficulty recalling details or retelling stories.
Have weak oral language or listening comprehension.
Have language-based learning disabilities.
Have hyperlexia (strong decoding but poor comprehension).
Have an ASD and/or ADHD diagnosis.

Lindamood-Bell "Visualizing and Verbalizing"
Orton-Gillingham/Wilson
I provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring for children of all ages who need extra support with reading, spelling, writing, and handwriting. My instruction is grounded in the Orton-Gillingham approach, a structured, explicit, multisensory method that is highly effective for students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Dyslexia is a neurobiological learning difference that primarily affects reading, spelling, and decoding skills, despite average or above-average intelligence. With the right evidence-based instruction, students with dyslexia can make significant progress and become confident, successful readers.
Each session includes individualized instruction along with 5–10 minutes of parent education to help reinforce learning at home. I believe that cooperative communication and strong parent engagement are essential to a child's success, so I provide regular progress monitoring and ongoing updates throughout the tutoring process. I also offer handwriting support as needed to strengthen written communication skills. To best meet your family's needs, tutoring is available both in person and virtually.
Following an initial informal assessment, I will develop an individualized instructional plan designed to build your child's reading skills, support their academic growth, and foster confidence as they become a more successful learner. I look forward to partnering with your family to help your child reach their full potential. Please contact me to discuss your child's individual needs and learn how personalized, evidence-based instruction can support their success.
